Living with dementia

There has been many things said about the benefits (Or NON benefits) of an early diagnosis of Dementia. There has also been many arguements about  prescribing people with Dementia drugs and the validity of these drugs!! Before i was diagnosed, i had almost lost my speech, my spatiel awareness was none existant, my thought processes were all over the place and i was convinced the whole world was wrong and i was right!! I had no confidence whatsoever and was just sat about awaiting my inevitable fate, because, as we know, there is no cure as yet.

Three months after taking Ebixa, i got my life back !!  That was Three years ago. Admittedly these last couple of months i have slipped a little but the last few years have been without doubt, strangley enough, the most productive of my life!! So the next time someone says to you that Dementia is all about old age and late stages, or, there is no point to an early diagnosis as there is no cure, please ask them to look at the above picture!! Or even better ask them to contact me !!!!!

Together we will drive the stigma away, together we will beat this, and together we will rejoice when the day arrives that a cure for Dementia  is found!! If anybody would like to use this piece for a media campaign or would like me to write about the HUGE BENIFITS of an early diagnosis, please do and  contact me.

Norman Mc Namara, diagnosed at age 50yrs old, now 55yrs old

Hi Norman I’m really glad you have found your diagnosis helpful and have responded to treatment. For me the concern is that we ensure the care and support is there too post diagnosis. I see a postcode lottery of care with some parts of the country leaving those with dementia feeling very isolated and alone. For me it’s about timely diagnosis with care and support in place for everyone and I worry that we still haven’t got that right for those already diagnosed. The two should go together and I want to see as much emphasis on that as the push to diagnose . Take care Norman you are an inspiration xxxx
